35mm Mortar Shell

Details

Title 35mm Mortar Shell
Description As trench fortifications became more sophisticated so did the artillery that was designed to penetrate it. Artillery shells were used to destroy bunkers, equipment, troop positions, buildings, and to demoralize front line troops through constant shelling. Some soldiers who were frequently under mortar and artillery attacked developed the syndrome known as “shell shock”, which was characterized by near constant fatigue, fear, shaking, inability to eat or sleep, depression, and other physical and psychological symptoms. Today, “shell shock” is recognized as a form of Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder, or PTSD, which was not defined during WWI. Many soldiers carried these symptoms with them long after the war.
