Harry S. Truman Birthplace State Historic Site

Description

Harry S. Truman is the only American President to be born in the state of Missouri. Truman was also a Captian in Battery D of the 129th Field Artillery Unit who served overseas. Harry S. Truman was born at this site in Lamar, Missouri on May 8, 1884, and serves as a memorial to the man and his service in both the military and United States Government. The home was designated a State Historic Site on April 19, 1959, Truman was there for the event. 

The site also features a stone memorial featuring a portrait of Truman with his overseas cap on. It was placed by the American Legion of the 15th District in May of 1984.
