Missouri Over There

Grundy County WWI Memorial Arch

Description

In Trenton, Missouri’s Moberly Park stands a memorial arch dedicated to Grundy County veterans who gave their lives in service during WWI. Originally dedicated specifically to WWI soldiers and sailors, the arch was rededicated in 1990 to honor all American veterans of foreign wars. Imbedded in the concrete below the arch is a sealed box containing the stories of 27 soldiers who died from Grundy County during WWI. 27 Elm trees were also originally planted in their honor, but have since been removed. The momorial has been restored since its initial installation.
