March 4 - 1918 My Very Dear Estella: - You have been very sweet and good to write so much Dearest and I do enjoy them ever so much. Don't you ever worry about writing to many, because I could read your letters always and love every word of them because they came from you. Have been pretty busy the last three days so did not get time to write you Dearie, but I shall save time for you always after this. We have been having rifle practice and trench work lately, then starting today I go to school four days a week for two weeks this is bayonet school, the hardest work I think there is in the whole training course.

I am enjoying it however as it is just what I really need to put me in real good condition to take part in the athletic contests that will come off before long no definite time has been set as yet for the contests but we think in about three weeks. That will be just about right for me too if it is, because with the two weeks of bayonet drill then one week to do a little running in I think I shall be in splendid condition. Really Estella nothing could of happened to me that would of done me more good than to go in the army when I did. Now I feel that I

am as good physically as I ever could be again or in fact ever was about. and I have had a wonderful lesson in just what (High Life) will do for one if they continue to any length of time. No matter where I go now from now on I shall never be like I was last summer for a while, because I think to much of my health now. The mistake was made I guess because I think of you all the time when I sent the music to Martha, I know she is not your sister and remember very well you introduced her to me as niece too, so Martha will maybe pardon me, Because there is hardly any time that I have not got you in my mind

Note pay day for us is not until the 15th of the month. We muster in and sign the payroll the last day of each month, but never get paid before the 12th and not later than the 15th of each month. I am lucky so far I still have $20 00 to run me until pay day. I'll admit it is the first time for quite a while that I have been that way. But then I have not been any where since I got back except the one day I went to Iowa. Have not had a chance to go since and don't know when I can go again either. Because with school now

I'll have to go to the rifle range again next Sat. and Sunday to compete my trial for Marksman's. so I should probably not go until after this course in bayonet school. Althou I take a shower & go to bed early about all the time and it is hard to break the routine. Two regiments left camp today. (5,0000) a lot of the officers from Sergeant on up had to stay here and I do hope they don't do that to me when our time comes. I want to go with
