William Robiner letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley - June 29, 1919
Transcript
[USS Liberator] June 29, 1919. Dr. [Henry Milton] Whelpley, 415 Clark St St. Louis [Missouri] Dear Dr. Whelpley, Your letter of May last at hand. I was surely glad to see a letter from you. The fact that you had me in mind at the college banquet pleased me very much, and I surely appreciate that I am not forgotten, especially in such places. I was surely glad to hear that you had a nice attendance of old college graduates at the 1919 banquet. I was especially pleased to hear of the large class you graduated this year, considering the surroundings of course not all young men are at war or in service, but not all of the young men are pharmacy students. By the way I wish to thank you for the magazine you sent me it was the first Meyer [Brothers] Druggist I have seen since I left Great Lakes, Illinois. This is my fourth trip to France.

[page 2] I hope it will be the last one, but am afraid that my fifth trip will also be accross the sea instead of the continent. We expect to reach France about the third of July; that will give us a chance to celebrate our - Fourth on French soil. I suppose the American Soldier and Sailors would rather celebrate their holidays in France, since the uniform does not prevent them from getting Liquor in saloons, or wine houses. On our last trip, The [USS Liberator] had the pleasure of bringing back a graduate of our St. Louis College of Pharmacy. The gentleman’s name is August F. Lohmann Jr. Ph.G., who graduated in May 15, 1917. He lives in 2113 “G.” St. Granite City, Illinois. I am sure we enjoyed the meeting of each other, and more so the little time we spent together on this ship, on the way to U.S.A. or God’s Country as the men in uniform call it.
Transcript
Mr. Lohmann had mighty fine experiences in France and undoubtedly told me most of them, while I told him of my own experiences in turn. Mr. Lohmann, I suppose is home by now. He told me that he will be-to see you as soon as he gets home. Undoubtedly he will be to see you before this letter reaches you. However it will not hurt for me not to mention the same as if he may not get the opportunity to see you before this letter reaches you then I will be at the head of the game. As there are no other news here that would particularly interest you, I shall make this letter short and will write more next time. My regards to [St. Louis College of Pharmacy] Faculty. Sincerelly Yours, William Robiner Ph. M. 3. [USS Liberator], c/o Postmaster, [New York]
