[November] 14th 1918. Mr. [Henry Milton] Whelpley Meyer [Brothers] Druggist St. Louis [Missouri] Dear Sir: I received your letter of [October] 23rd this morning and was surely appreciated. We all are pleased to hear the Fourth Liberty loan has been so successful and certainly realize that all back home are doing wonderful work to help the boys “Over Here.” I guess the people went nearly wild there when they received the latest war reports, here we all sure celebrated, the bells rang, whistles blew

I returned Monday from an eight day trip across France, riding in a Dodge Sedan and had a dandy time, the scenery all along the line is wonderful many of the people have their homes built back in the hills, just like a cave, and all have large grape vineyards, you know the French consider wine as one of the biggest things in life and of course while out we had to

[page 3] live up to the custom and drink it with every meal. As yet I haven’t received a single copy of the “Druggist” sure anxiously awaiting them, for I’ve always found it very interesting. Was surprised to meet William Clinton one of your former drivers downtown the other afternoon and like all the rest of us, he is very anxious to get back to the good old U.S.A. again. We are now in our

[page 4] new infirmary and I am in charge of the drug room and feel very much at home, we certainly have one of the finest places in the [American Expeditionary Forces] especially to spend the winter in.
