France [December] 22, 1918 Mr. [Henry Milton] Whelpley Meyer [Brothers] Druggist St. Louis [Missouri] Dear Mr. Whelpley: Your letter of November 30, 1918, just received and I am surely pleased to hear from you. This being a large seaport town, there are many soldiers sailing from here for the states every week, we are at a Motor Reception Park and haven’t the least idea when we will receive orders to start home but hope we will soon be among the lucky ones. [page 2] French children at camp Xmas afternoon and will have a gift for each one of them, then in the evening we will have a big dance and obtained permission to envite our lady friends, certainly will be a change, for up to this time all our dances were stag affairs. I seen a dandy boxing contest last night between a sailor and a soldier, sure was interesting, they have

I have two pharmacists in the drug room with me now, and we are kept very busy, as it has been raining for nearly a month, and that weather sure brings on colds etc. Mr. C. Shimkins, of Brooklyn New York and Mr Benji Schapiro of Newark [New Jersey] are the men with me I told them you would be pleased to hear from

[page 4] them. My Commanding Officer Lieut. J.W. Nigh practiced in and around St. [Joseph], [Missouri] for quite a number of years, and he now has the copy of the “Druggist” I received and finds it very interesting as it has always proven to be. I received some drug supplies from the Base Supply Depot yesterday, and among them were some one ounce bottles of Copper Sulphate, with Meyer [Brothers] Label on the bottles. Description | Vincent J. Grishammer sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Grishammer wrote about his plans for Christmas. He explained that the camp would be hosting 500 French children. |
