France April 18, [1919] Dr. [Henry Milton] Whelpley, Editor. Meyer [Brothers] Druggist St. Louis [Missouri] Dear Sir: Returned this evening from a six day visit to “Gay Paree” and was very pleased to find your most welcomed letter of March 24, waiting me. Beaucoup changes here in camp in the past week, Captain Nigh, our Commanding Officer has been relieved from duty, and will soon sail for the good old U.S.A. no chance of our little Detachment of nine men leaving with him, but

[page 2] we have hopes of leaving France not later then July 15, 1919. They are doing a great deal of Auto Repair work at this park, and I think in a months time everything will be cleaned up, and as we are attached to the companies doing this work we must remain until their work is done. A couple boats pull out of here every week loaded with “lucky boys” headed for the good old U.S.A. and very seldom you’ll find a fellow that desires to remain here in “Frogland”

[page 3] Paris, Nice, and a few others, are very wonderful cities, but I’d rather spend the rest of my days in the states. I’ve had a good many chats with French Pharmacists, and they all seem almost as anxious as the French Mademoiselles are to make America their home. I haven’t a photograph of the Captain or one of myself at present, but will be glad to send you one soon. Some real American girls will be here in camp this evening to entertain the boys
