[August] 18th 1918 Meyer [Brothers] Druggist St. Louis [Missouri] Dear Sirs: - I am now in a position to give you an address which I have every reason to believe will be permanent during my stay in France, as I have been assigned to the Camp Infirmary at a large Motor Base. The duties of the Hospital Corps men in a camp infirmary are considerable different and so far as I am concerned personally more interesting then I have been called upon to perform heretofore. We have sick call morning and evening, at which to those who are able to attend. Our detachment is also held responsible for the sanitary conditions of the camp. I have met no pharmacist in this particular infirmary, but have been giving to understand

that there are several in camps near by, as well as in the Base Hospital, which is the parent institution for all the surrounding infirmaries. I intend to get acquainted with some of these fellows in the near future and trust that I will soon be able to give them some extra copies of the “Meyer [Brothers] Druggist” which I hope will arrive soon. Description | Vincent J. Grieshammer sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. In this letter, Grieshammer described life at the camp infirmary in great detail. He explained that there was sick call in the morning and the evenings and that there were no pharmacists at that location. |
