Yerba Buena Island California August 8, 1917. Dear Doctor: – Just to let you know that I am alive and happy. I am in a detention camp and will be kept in detention one month. This is done to prevent any epidemic from getting into the School. Yours respectfully Philip L. Chiles. Company X-4 [Hospital] App. Naval Training School.

In this postcard, Chiles wrote that he was being held at a detention camp to prevent the spread of disease. |
