January 27, 1919 Dear Dr. Whelpley. My thoughts have been of Missouri today, so I am writing you a few lines. Entered Service May 1st last year and have enjoyed my new work immensely. Am at present located in this large hospital center. We have over 15,000 wounded boys here, many are severly injured and frightfully maimed. We endeavor to Evacuate them to America so soon as their condition permits, when a convoy leaves others are sent in from the front to fill

the vacancies. They are a cheerful bunch, but all long to return home. While at Camp Dover last summer Serg’t J.D. Clark, Class [1917], was one of my assistants in the operating room. He was given instructions in Anesthesia and preperation of patients, at present he is here at this hospital and I am glad to say he has made good in every particular –just what every graduate of the [St. Louis College of Pharmacy] should do. I am well and kept busy.

Description | Owen Krueger sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Krueger wrote that he was serving in a large hospital center that was filled with over 15,000 wounded soldiers. This letter was written on American Red Cross letterhead. |
