Camp Mills [New York] Long Island [October] 9 - 1918. Dear Dr. Quite surpprised you will be to hear from me here I am sure, but I cant resist the temptation to send a few lines to you and any that I may know. Am in the Med. Dept. but all the same it does not say that there is any specification of rank for in our bunch there are three graduates and registered men in our bunch and they including myself are not first class privates even not our fault for the officers are all southern physicians and you can

immagine the rest and the part that hurts is that the Non Coms, & first class privates are boys that can hardly write their own name on account of callouses on their hands caused by dodging detail work and holding down plow handles between two rows of cotton in Southern Alabama Sand. and farther, not disputing the reputation of Our Late Proffessor Remington Our first sargeant and the other two sargeants used to work in a Coal Company Commission store and sold patents & toilet articles and stick candy. a solution or any thing done scientifically they sure call on us. Dr. I have been in quite a few of the Hospitals and have noticed to my own satisfaction that there is quite a lot of M.B. goods used. Give my regards to any whom I may know and especially to the Faculty & Alumni Assn, and if possible I would be greatly pleased if you could furnish the addresses of the boys of the Class of [1918] that are with the colors and elsewhere. Description | John C. Sizemore sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Sizemore wrote about being out ranked by southern farmers who could hardly write their own names. This letter was written on Y.M.C.A. letterhead. |
