Great Lakes, [Illinois] [October] 14, 1918 Dr. [Henry Milton] Whelpley, Ph.G. M.D. [St. Louis], [Missouri] Dear Sir: I just received your letter of the 9th and will be glad to answer. I always wanted to write you but some how ore other I didn’t. Sure was glad to hear from you as you are the only one from school that wrote me besides Mr Steincamp Ph.G. [1918]. He is in Seattle, [Washington] having put in his application for the Navy at that place. Mr. Ballou Ph.G. [1918] one of my best chums is in [Tennessee] as I understand. Would you please send me Mr. Curran address. He is up here someplace.

When I enlisted I couldn’t get in the hospital corps so I enlisted as a seaman. I am detailed in the Executive office until the hospital corps is open again. Well, Dr. Whelpley I will close hoping to hear from you soon, I remain very truly, Jacob Hull. Executive office Room 5. Administration Building. Great Lakes, [Illinois] Please excuse writing as this is written on a cot.

Description | Jacob Hull sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Hull wrote that he wanted to be in the hospital corps and explained why he enlisted in the Navy. This letter was written on Y.M.C.A. letterhead. |
