Liberty, Missouri May 21, 1918 Dear Lady of M. P. A. & M. P. T. A. The time is near for our meeting and we are planning the best time ever. The programme is good, some things new and some old. The most wonderful patriotic knitting contest for the Red Cross. Bring your needles, #3 amber or #10 steel, and enough yarn to make a square seven by seven. Everybody is doing it. The prizes this year are artistic and useful, one for every member. Bring some new member. “Show them” where, why and how we have a good time. Truly yours. Mrs. J.H. Description | Mrs. J. H. Bames of the Missouri Ladies’ Auxiliary sent a letter to Mrs. Henry Milton Whelpley, Dr. Whelpley's wife. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. In this letter, Mrs. Bames asked Mrs. Whelpley to be on the introduction committee of the Ladies Auxiliary. She also mentioned a knitting contest that was being sponsored by the Red Cross to support the war effort. This letter was written on Ladies Auxiliary letterhead. |
