[November] 6 [1917] Meyer [Brothers] Drug [Company] St. Louis [Missouri] Dear Sirs – I am writing in regard to my Son – A. C. Jones who is in the army a private His – Captain tells him that there is a shortage of registered pharmacists in the army and that the service is suffering from this cause – Arthur has attended a year at the St Louis [College] of Pharmacy and could get through in this year if he could attend – more What I am driving at is to get him released from the Army long enough to finish and get their diploma There is a law giving medical & dental Students leave of absence to finish the courses and and get their diplomas I do not know whether it applies to drug students or not. Will you kindly invest your selves enough in the matter to the dean Dr Whelpley or Dr. Corpasse or any one else who [ms illegible: 1 wd] help in the matter & Arthur says if there is any help in the matter it will have to be done quickly as the time is short – We will be your debtors greatly in the matter - if you will aid us – yours J. A. Jones Arthur has had (7) year practical experience as a drugist – if he can get transfered to the pharmacal department – He – would dr. [ms illegible: 1 wd] top survery with foundly owes (47) dollars pay per month. [ms illegible: 3 wds]

Description | J. A. Jones sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley for his son Private A.C. Jones. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Jones asked Dr. Whelpley to send an affidavit to the Army stating that his son would be completing pharmacy school. |
