Camp Hancock, [Georgia] [October] 12 - [1918] Meyer [Brothers] Druggist [Henry Milton] Whelpley Editor. Gentleman:- about June the 25th I wrote you from Camp Bradley Peoria, [Illinois] stating I was in the army and could not use the journal as I am in a casual co and have to move so often no journal never gets to me. I am in one of the infirmaries now expecting to be transferred to the Chemical warfare dept. when I get stationed surely will have the Meyer [Brothers] Druggist sent to me. If there is anything needed in this mans Army its must be a Pharmaceutical Corps, being the only pharmacists in the ordinance dept. and a graduate of the [Saint Louis College of Pharmacy]

don’t like to see all kind of percentage solutions & ointment made by men who have no pharmaceutical knowledge, and no scales or measures to work with, I am using a very crude balance my own manufacture for making preparation using small pill boxes filled with sand for weight and round box lids for the pan. If the journal has been sent to my old address since my absence supposed I will have to pay for it but I asked the postmaster to return them. Please send me papers showing that I am a graduate of the [Saint Louis College of Pharmacy] 1914 as mine are home in my trunk Also let me know about the Drug journal 4th Casual Co. Out Oblige 1st [Provisional] [Regiment] O.T.C. your truly Henry A. Karber

Description | Henry A. Karber sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Karber wrote about the need for a pharmaceutical corps in the Army and explained that he was the only College trained pharmacists in his unit. This letter was written on Y.M.C.A. letterhead. |
