Whitney of Houston, [Texas]) Havana, Cuba, [September 10, 1918] Gentlemen: - From M. d. and “Pill Roller” to second mate of an ocean steamer at 56 is some change; but this old boy has taken it. Am well and hearty and on my 4th trip between New Orleans, Mobile, Pensicola & this city. One thing is certain this is no “postage stamp” job with kind regards to M. B. H. [George] V. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Whitney informed Whelpley that he was 2nd mate on an ocean steamer. |
