De Soto, [Missouri], [November] 25, 1918 Dear Doctor Whelpley: I received your very kind letter of the 20 inst. Thank you for your kind words. I am enclosing clipping from the De Soto paper. While his college life you are familiar, and of all his exemplary life as a student. He was born in De Soto [October] 13th – 1891 & was at the time of his death 27 years & 7 days old. He lived here all his life – was associated with me for 5 years, and of that association I can say, were among the very pleasant years of my life. I think from these few words you can write something that will be worthy of him. I am so depressed & heart broken that it doesn’t seem life will ever be the same to me. Yours Sincerely G. A. Auerswald
