was on a hot day, and about 1200 went on the hike and about 150 dropped out, a few were sent to the hospital but most were suffering from sore feet, that would be a good subject to teach the boys at college, as they are prospective soldiers, How to keep their feet in condition for long marching, I have noticed that the city boys make better soldier than the country lads or the country lads are not as active and it is hard for them to get out of their easy going slouchy manner, Our meals are not like you get at home. No fancy dressings pie cake etc, we get beef three times a day, beans, rice, potatoes, black coffee, when the mail man distributes the mail, you would think he was giving gold bricks away, the way the boys crowd around him, looking for a letter from home, The barracks is situated on Black River Bay twelve miles from Lake Ontario, the scenery is very beautiful here, wish I had my paint box with me as I could get many pretty pictures. We expect to leave here soon, will go to school at Rochester [New York] for 30 days and then be sent to some aviation camp I forgot to mention that I was married at Sacket Harbor [New York] May 25th to Miss Mary
