Orthopaedic Dispensary, 16th Infirmary, 164th Depot Brigade, Camp Funston, [Kansas] September 14th,1918. From: Sergt. 1st Cl. Fred G. Messerschmitt,16th Infirmary. To: The Dean St. Louis, College of Pharmacy. Subject: Request for testimonial. 1. I sincerely request that you be kind enough to send me as soon as possible a testimonial stating that I am a graduate of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy, receiving at the time a certificate of ”Honorable Mention”. I require the same for transmission to the Surgeon General at Washington, relative to a transfer in the service. I graduated in the class of 1914. Thanking you in advance for this kind favor I am Yours very truly, Fred G. Messerschmitt. Sgt. Ist Cl. Med. Dept. U.S.A.

Description Fred G. Messerschmitt sent a letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. In this letter, Messerschmitt asked Dr. Whelpley for an affidavit stating that he was a graduate of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy. Messerschmitt needed the affidavit in order to be transferred to a different unit.
