Couddes, France [December] 1, 1918. Mr. [Henry Milton] Whelpley c/o Meyer [Brothers] Drug Co. St Louis, [Missouri] U.S.A. Dear Mr. Whelpley: Just received your letter of the [November 24, 1918], up to the present have not recd the [Meyer Brothers] Druggist, anyhow want to thank you for remembering me, for letters, WAY-OVER-HERE are appreciated. Have just completed a letter (of my entire trip up to the present) to my Honest to goodness Friend at home Miss Verna Bledsoe, Paragould [Arkansas] addressed as HER XMAS.LETTER, have ask her to have a copy of it made and maybe she will mail you one. Dont know how interesting it is, but it is actual facts that we have encountered, and prooveing that the Morale of the American Soldiers is the Best, as most all the Boys came from good homes and good positions and to accept Army life with out complain (only 15 pages) Now our thoughts are of Home for ever since the Armistice was signed, we dream of what we will do when we get there, First, is to become Civilized, getting acquainted with loose fitting breaches, sleeping between sheets and eating at the table with a knife and fork and spoon, as Army ration seldom require more than a spoon. Ask Mr. Lee if he ever recd the check that I mailed from here, and if he has kept his promise. Also tell him I heard from Lt. Borg, he went to the Front in [October] but is O.K. and extends his very best. Remember me to all, IF, when we do come home and through St Louis, will drop off to say hello. (over)
