Fort Riley, Kansas [October] 27, [1918] Prof. [Henry Milton] Whelpley. Dear Sir: Just a line to let you know how I am getting along. I am at present on duty at the base –hospital at [Fort Riley] as ward man, as the influenza & [pneumonia] has been pretty serious, but is nearly checked now, & I expect to be transferred back to my Co. again. Mr. Fred. Fabel from the 1918 Class is here with me doing the same work, & it felt mighty good to meet one of my college chums, also met Mr. Rose at Camp Funston [Kansas], who is now transferred to [Fort Riley] [Kansas] in the M.D. Corpse. It has been raining for the past two days & we are expecting snow almost any time as it is getting cold now. I suppose you are kept

busy with the 1918-1919 Class. I felt blue the day that College opened, but expect to come back some day & finish my course. I am going to put in an application for the M.D. corpse & would appreciate a letter of recommendation from the College also a copy of my junior examination which was lost when my clothes where shipped home. Will close for this time as it is getting late with best regards to all the boys at college also Prof. Caspari, Prof. Herm, & Prof. Wall. Respectfully, Pvt. A.C.H. Description | Arthur C.H. Hinzpeter sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Hinzpeter wrote that he was on duty at the hospital because of the influenza and pneumonia epidemics. This letter was written on Y.M.C.A. letterhead. |
