Fort Riley, [Kansas] [December] 17 [1918] Prof. [Henry Milton] Whelpley, Dear Sir: It was with a great deal of interest that I recieved your letter and the literature. I now will be able to occupy my mind in good Pharmaceutical topics and literature. The “Flu” seems to have had quite a hold in the St. Louis to keep the College closed for so long a period, but here is hoping that the good work of the College will continue through the remainder of the session undisturbed. I was very sorry to hear that Prof. Wall Sr. had the “Flu” and wish him a speedy recovery. The weather here is pretty

cold again. This state has the most peculiar climate, one day it is warm and before the next day everything freezes up tight. There are quite a few of the boys from this camp leaving tomorrow for Fort Snelling [Minnesota] and think that the shipment I am on will leave some time this week. I have made several trips to the towns near this camp, Junction City, Camp Funston, Army City, and Manhatten City and have visited the drug stores in these towns. The stores are all modern and up-to-date but their prices are terrible high, for they know that the people have to buy there and competition is not very strong. Mr. Rose, Mr. Tobert, Mr. Fabel and Mr. Schlagenhauf all join with me in wishing yourself and the College “greetings” through the holidays Respectfully Pvt. A.C.H. Hinzpeter
