Arthur Hinzpeter letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley - December 14, 1918
Transcript
Fort Riley [Kansas] [December] 14 – [1918] Prof. [Henry Milton] Whelpley, Dear Sir: Just a few lines to let you know where I am now located. I am at the M.O.T.C. of Fort Riley [Kansas] and have met some of the boys from College, [Missouri] Rose, Tobert, Schlagenhauf and Mr. Fabel. I meet them quite often at the Y.M.C.A. and talk about the old College days. The weather here has been very disagreeable for the past two days, it has rained continually and last night everything froze up tight, suppose the weather in St. Louis is about the same, as this is the time of the year for such weather there.
Transcript
I received a little from Mr. Kranse stating that College had been closed for about a month on account of the influenza epidemic, and suppose it has upset the regular routine of work. Last Saturday I had the pleasure of witnessing the big review of the 10th [Division] of Camp Funston [Kansas], it took about 3 hours for the soldiers to pass review before [General] Wood. As it is getting close to “chow” time will close with best regards to all the boys at College, also Prof. Caspari, Prof. Hernm, and Prof. Wall. Respectfully, Pvt. A.C.H. Hinzpeter, Casual Det. Barracks 615 M.O.T.C. Fort Riley [Kansas]
