Camp MacArthur, [Texas] [October] 20th 1918 Prof. [Henry Milton] Whelpley c/o Meyer [Brothers] Druggist St. Louis, [Missouri] Dear Dr. Whelpley, I will take the pleasure to write you a few lines to let you know I am well and still located at Camp MacArthur. I have charge of the Dispensary at Infirmary No 3 Section A. We have been fairly busy during the past few weeks with this epidemic of Spanish Influenza, it was so severe here today that we were forced to establish an emergency hospital here in this section which is still in

[page 2] operation, but I’m glad to state that we have the situation well controlled and will soon have it stamped out I think. I received a prophylactic against Influenza the other day which will render me immune, I hope. There are quite a few physicians here that tell me we should have a pharmaceutical corps in the army, which I hope will be a reality in the near future. I think it would be a good thing to get the public press better acquainted with and more interested in-what a pharmaceutical corps means to our army and the

Description | Alvin G. Florian sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Florian wrote that he was in charge of the dispensary and that they had been very busy because of the Spanish Influenza. This letter was written on Y.M.C.A. letterhead. |
