Dun Sur Muese France [December] 25 [1918] Dear Cousin Henry Yesterday I received your letter of [November] 6 – among the first bunch of mail we have received in 7 weeks and it sure was a great Xmas present for us I do not get much time to write as we have been Kept very busy since July 15th We were hauling ammunition to the Front during the Chateau Thierry Drive, and when run the germans past Fismes and turned the front over to the French two of our Co’s

with a colored Infantry regiment, were left there to salvage the whole line, we finish that front in the middle of november and are now cleaning up around Verdun The weather sure has been fierce over here, rain 95 out of the last 100 days It sure filled our hearts with Joy to read how the folks celebrated peace, at home, It sure must of been a wonderful sight We do not know when we will be sent back home but we sure are anxious to get back to ”gods Country”

Description | Albert W. Chase sent this letter to Dr. Henry Milton Whelpley. Dr. Whelpley was the dean of the St. Louis College of Pharmacy and editor of the Meyer Brothers Druggist magazine. Chase, Dr. Whelpley's cousin, described his experiences in the military. He wrote that his unit hauled ammunition to the front during the Chateau Thierry Drive and also served with a colored infantry regiment. This letter was written on American Y.M.C.A. letterhead. |
