Same Adress [November 30, 1917] My dear dear Mother & brother Raymond, Well, folks I received your Thanksgiving dinner & you can not really appreciate what it means to me - or would mean to any man down here. The meals are very much alike & plain. Now I can answer mess call with a jar of heavenly jam under my arm & a slice of cake or pie for dessert and you don't know how it will add to the meal. Then the other things - all those nuts & apples & oranges & raisins & pudding & salad & coconut & what not - I was simply overwhelmed when I unpacked

[page 2] the box. Talk about shot - I whooped & shouted & laugh my bunch was all around me & we did have a time. Of course I will give them a good bit of stuff but you can be sure that the most of it will reach the "tummy" for which is intended. I can not tell you how happy this has made me. You know I love you all but somehow I can not help feeling a little closer to you two & when I think of things we have gone thru together it almost makes tears come to my eyes - the house at N. 21st st.

Description | This letter was sent by Owen "Glen" Tudor to his mother, while he was training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma, on November 30, 1917. In this letter Tudor reminisced Thanksgivings at home and thanked his family for sending him a care package. Tudor, a Maplewood, Missouri, native, served in the 128th Field Artillery in the 35th Division during World War I. |
