Dear sister drop you these few lines to let you know about where i am at i was in east St. Louis [Illinois] Wed. night at 9p.m. stayed there for about 1 hour was more than three days and night on the way from San Benito [Texas] to east St. Louis [Illinois] we or still going north east somewhere on the coast we think New Jersey. Will Moran is on the same train it is just a few miles from [Dayton] Ohio now. Well i will let you know where we stop when we get there.

[page 2] We left the lower country Sunday after noon we came through south Missouri. Well i will close so good by will write later i could not tell you where we or going yet we or traveing under sealed orders. Well good bye i remain Your loving brother Ollie

Description | Oliver Vie was born January 28, 1887, in St. Louis, Missouri. After working for several years in a shoe factory, he enlisted in the army in October 1913, Company K, 26th Infantry. He served along the Mexican border before going with the first contingent to France in June 1917. He fought in the battles of Cantigny and Soissons and was wounded in action and died July 20, 1918. In this letter to his sister Grace, Vie, wrote in regards to traveling east from Texas. |
