Lavaca river bridge near Vanderbilt Texas Miss Corrine Ashton My dear niece I received you letter and was more than pleased to hear from you and I hope this letter finds you folks all well as it does me at the present time. Say I laughted about what you said about then sharks I was down the river this morning in a boat and saw too many to suit me this river is full of them. Well how about the weather up that way is she very warm it is down here if I do say so my self. Say you ask about that soldier holding the girls

Description | Oliver Vie was born January 28, 1887, in St. Louis, Missouri. After working for several years in a shoe factory, he enlisted in the army in October 1913, Company K, 26th Infantry. He served along the Mexican border before going with the first contingent to France in June 1917. He fought in the battles of Cantigny and Soissons and was wounded in action and died July 20, 1918. In this letter, Vie wrote his niece Corrine and discussed military life and the locals. He also described church service. |
