Kingsville [Texas] Dear brother just a few lines to let you know i am well and hope this finds you all well. Well how is every thing up that way the weather is a little cool down here now. Say how is all the fellows still hanging around. Well things or Just the same down here geting sick of it i have not seen Will Moran latley but he is still a corporal in L Company 26th infantry at Harlingen [Texas] How is old man Middleton still living and smoking stogies

Description | Oliver Vie was born January 28, 1887, in St. Louis, Missouri. After working for several years in a shoe factory, he enlisted in the army in October 1913, Company K, 26th Infantry. He served along the Mexican border before going with the first contingent to France in June 1917. He fought in the battles of Cantigny and Soissons and was wounded in action and died July 20, 1918. In this letter, Vie wrote his brother and described his frustration with army life and the prevalence of sickness among the soldiers. |
