Description Oliver Vie was born January 28, 1887, in St. Louis, Missouri. After working for several years in a shoe factory, he enlisted in the army in October 1913, Company K, 26th Infantry. He served along the Mexican border before going with the first contingent to France in June 1917. He fought in the battles of Cantigny and Soissons and was wounded in action and died July 20, 1918. In this letter, Private Woods explained, that he did not personally witness Vie's death but that he had heard from another soldier that Vie had been wounded at the Battle of Soissons.
