[Battery “D” letterhead] August 25, 1953 Dear Capt John: 35 Division Reunion St. Joseph, Missouri September 25-26-27 35 years ago, September 26th, 1918, hour, 8:15, orders, Forward March. Lt. Householder cannoniar heave-ho on the wheels, took position near hedge south of Bourevilles. Let’s have a big turn out September 26th, Saturday morning, with Captain Harry S. Truman together with other 35th Division Units, breakfast and parade Saturday, September 26th. The breakfast and Battery “D” Headquarters will be at the Robidoux Hotel. Watch for the 35th Divisioner for program. Please sign and return post card so arrangement can be made to your satisfaction. Contributions to The Harry S. Truman Library so far from Battery “D” Members-total $760.00. The enclosed pamphlet is self explanatory. To you who have contributed, thanks, and to those who have not contributed, please make your checks payable to The Harry S. Truman Library, Inc., and send it to me. The total contributions will be presented to Captain Harry at our Battery “D” Dinner November 7th, 1953, to be held at the Muehlebach Hotel. I regret to announce that Lonnie F. Letter to John H. Thacher from Fred J. Schmidt. Schmidt discussed the upcoming Battery D reunion in St. Joseph, Missouri. He also asked Thacher to make a contribution to the Harry S. Truman Library. Before the war, Thacher worked as an attorney with the firm Rozelle, Vineyard, Thacher, and Boys. He served on the Mexican Border and was later drafted into the Federal Army as Captain of the 129th Field Artillery. After Harry S. Truman took command of the 129th Field Artillery, Thacher was appointed adjutant of the 1st Battalion of the 129th Field Artillery , and later assumed command of the 110th Ammunition Train of the 35th Division.
