Wednesday - - May 29, 1918 Dear Ogee: We are on our way to Some Place! Camp Funston saw us for the last time yesterday afternoon and since then we have been crawling and creeping and speeding and rushing through varied and interesting towns in Kansas, Missouri, Iowa, Illinois and Indiana. About two hours ago we went thru Chicago. For the first time in twenty-four hours we were allowed off of the train - then only for thirty minutes to take some physical culture drill, which was badly needed by us. My address from now on will be Company A, 314th Engineers, 89th Division, American Expeditionary Forces. Two letters came from Maurice yesterday - the day we left and the were certainly mighty welcome. I hope I get a chance to see him. Description | Charles Stevenson wrote to Ogee that he had left Camp Funston and was traveling through Chicago. Stevenson enlisted in Kansas City, Missouri and became attached to Company A, 314th Engineers at Camp Funston, Kansas. Stevenson was shipped overseas on June 12, 1918 where he remained for the duration of the war. He arrived back in the United States on May 26, 1919. |
