in the squad do that, such as bailing water out of the boats, cutting wood, sweeping out our little shack, keeping the fire going and etc. We are on the job for three days. We left our camp Monday morning at 8:30 and return to it Thursday about the same time! We walk one mile east to our meals which puts us a big stone barracks at Fort Riley, just one hundred yards from where Maurice trained. I

Description | Charles Stevenson wrote to his Grandma and told her of guard work he was supervising. Stevenson enlisted in Kansas City, Missouri and became attached to Company A, 314th Engineers at Camp Funston, Kansas. Stevenson was shipped overseas on June 12, 1918 where he remained for the duration of the war. He arrived back in the United States on May 26, 1919. |
