[Army of Occupation letterhead] Welschbillig, Germany March 22 Dear Folks: This is the Army of Occupation insignia - how do you like it? Pretty neat, I think. The enclosed is a picture of one of our lieutenants. He had charge of the company during the St. Mihiel drive. He is a dandy fellow - when we were training he was in charge of the Fourth platoon, of which I was platoon sergeant. I know him and the captain better than any of the many officers we have

ever had. He is from St. Louis. When we were at Funston he was with us the last three months. Take good care of this as I do want to lose it. Feeling fine! Love, Charlie

Description | Charles Stevenson sent this letter to his grandparents and stated that he enclosed a photograph of one of his lieutenants. Stevenson enlisted in Kansas City, Missouri and became attached to Company A, 314th Engineers at Camp Funston, Kansas. Stevenson was shipped overseas on June 12, 1918 where he remained for the duration of the war. He arrived back in the United States on May 26, 1919. |
