Transcript

[Konz, Germany] May 3, 1919 Dear Folks: Letters from you of April 8 - from Aunt Daisy and Grandma, written from Excelsior Springs reached several days ago. The stamps that Grandma put in her letter sure came in handy, as you will no doubt recognize some of them on two packages I sent home yesterday. These packages contain stuff that I have been using over here and have been carrying around for some time. We have no transportation now and all our stuff is now carried on our back. For that reason I sent every bit of my surplus property ahead - and hope to get there a couple of weeks after it does. We leave this town for France on May 9 and should arrive at Brest on May 13. Two or three days there and we should be on the way home. According tothis we will be in some sea port about May 25. Ten days later at a very conservative estimate, we ought to be discharged. I have it figured out that we will be sent home between June 1 and [June 5] - - and will not be one bit surprised if we beat that at least one week. Everybody is busy as possible, especially a man who can run a typewriter. Personally, I have been doing quite a little work helping to write the history of the company. We are going to have it printed in America and I think it is going to be given to me. It is quite a job, but I can get away with it, I am sure. Marmon has tried to complete arrangements to get his discharge at Funston. According to his enlistment place, he goes to Colorado for his discharge, but he is trying to come to [Camp Funston] and we think he will make it. He thanks you very much for the cordial invitation to come there and there is no doubt in my mind but what he will come if he possibly can. I hope Grandma
