Konz, Germany April 24 Dear Folks: The big military function of the 89th Division history came off yesterday when that unit passed in review before Secretary of War Baker, General Pershing and the Prince of Belgium. Baker talked to the men of the Division, who assembled in the big hanger for that reason. Our company was not in the review, having been moved the day before because of some hurry-up job on some stables. I stayed behind to have some dental work done and Marmon was also left here to do some shooting on the rifle range. So we were the only two out of our entire company that were lucky enough to see the review. Some day - Now that the review is over, we are just about done with war work, and manual labor, too. Most of our time will be taken up with examinations and inspections. It seems positive that we will leave Germany some time between May 6 and May 13. If so, there is a good chance to be home by June 1. Here

Description | Charles Stevenson sent this letter to his grandparents about the 89th Division review and hoped he would leave Germany soon. Stevenson enlisted in Kansas City, Missouri and became attached to Company A, 314th Engineers at Camp Funston, Kansas. Stevenson was shipped overseas on June 12, 1918 where he remained for the duration of the war. He arrived back in the United States on May 26, 1919. |
