[St. Louis Car Company letterhead] St. Louis, U.S.A., [October] 16 [1915] St. Louis Car Company, St. Louis, [Missouri] Gentlemen;- It is hereby understood and agreed that when certain provisions embodied in contract dated [October] 15th between EDWIN L. REED & COMPANY, a Corporation of Chicago, [Illinois], and the ST. LOUIS CAR COMPANY, a Corporation of St. Louis, [Missouri] have been carried out, that I will agree to accompany sample Hydro-Aeroplane, together with a competent aviator, to England, to demonstrate and prove its capabilities, all as provided for in Paragraph 4 of contract referred to above. Tom W. Benoist was an aviator and aircraft manufacturer. He was also the founder of the Benoist Aircraft Company which designed and built airplanes of original design.The
