Description |
Photograph of a Curtiss JN-4D, or Jenny aircraft, manufactured by the St. Louis Car Company. This model was built in the largest quantities. The aircraft's design was attributed to Benjamin D. Thomas while Glen Curtiss was responsible for the original concept. The JN-4 planes were a combination of Curtiss; original Model J and Model N bi-plane developments. By 1917 the Jenny became responsible for the training of most American pilots who saw combat in the war. The St. Louis car company became one of six across the country to produce the Curtiss JN-4D Jenny with first deliveries in 1918.
|
