(For Official Circulation only). (G.O.96.) G.H.Q. American Expeditionary Forces France, June 15, 1919. General Orders No. 96} 1. The newspaper correspondents who are duly accredited by the War Department and attached to the American expeditionary Forces are charged with the duty of keeping the American public informed of the activities of our forces. They are under military control, and all matter written by them is submitted for censorship. The work of these correspondents is considered to be of the greatest importance, as it is essential that our activities be truly and promptly represented to the American public. All members of the American Expeditionary Forces should understand that these accredited correspondents are held worthy of confidence and it is expected that every reasonable facility and assistance be extended them [m.s. torn] enable them to obtain all proper information for the efficient performance of their duties. 2. Accredited Correspondents are provided with passes and identity cards similar to those of officers. They are authorized to travel within the zone of the American Army under regulations issued from these headquarters from time to time and under directions of the press officers, but not necessarily accompanied by the press officer. 3. Visiting Correspondents, on the other hand, are ordinarily accompanied by a conducting officer. In the exceptional case when they are not so accompanied, they will be provided with a letter from a press officer specifically authorizing them to travel to certain points without being accompanied. 4. Paragraph 3 of G.O. No. 36, September 12, 1917, these headquarters so far as related to the uniform of accredited correspondents, is revoked. Accredited Correspondents will wear the American Officers
