Walter Gray Shaw Biographical Sketch

Walter [Gray] Shaw son of John C and [Lizzette] Shaw was born in Leavenworth County Kansas January 13 1896 and was killed in action at CHARPENTRY in the Argonne October 2nd 1918 Aged 22 years 8 months and 19 days. Walter Shaw was a musician of more than ordinary ability and was recognized as an expert player on both the violin and clairnet. His music was always in demand at all entertainments Not only was Walter Shaw an accomplished musician but he was a patriot and a lover of his fellowmen.. At the outbreak of the war or immediately after the United States entered the war he enlisted in the Regular Army and was in training at Fort Douglass Arizona when he was assigned to the 18th Infantry Band. He sailed for France June 10 1917 with Pershings first contingent. He was as stated above killed in action October 2 1918 at CHARPENTRY in the Argonne and was buried in the military cemetery at Charpentry. He is survived by his parents Mr and Mrs John C. Shaw and two sisters Beatrice and Summers Shaw all of Bonner Springs and a large circle of friends and relatives.
