Sept 18 – 17 Dear Somers – : I rec’d the letter dated the 27th of [August]. I am glad you are getting along well with your music I am playing some clarinet but no violin I got the key all right. you should practise writeing scales of music when you want to Make a quarter or 1/16 note make a mark on the line where the note is to be like this \ then put another one this Way [three musical notes] half note [one musical note]. buy a music tablet and practise this as if you ever go to an

artist teacher you will have to write lots of music so the teacher will understand that you know what is trying to be taught. I am in the best of health. the nights are very cool I guess it will be very cold this winter I had a letter from Pearl she is very Well. Who played for the Dances at the Park this summer What instruments did they have? What grade will you be in this year? How is Beatrice Did Papa catch any fish this summer. What condition is my shot gun in. I want it Left in perfect shape as I expect to use it when I get back I think mabe I will go out west as I think I like it out there. How many chickens have you. do you get any eggs. I will write you a little French (Donne mot un ouf.) give me one egg (Oudla garson) Where is the boy? Do you think you could learn it all of us got mail to day. we shure like to get mail. How is Uncle Joe tell him hello.

Did you show him the Poast card pictures of my self? what did he think of them. I went swiming quite a lot but the water is to cold now I might have the chance to see E .Jonson but I think not you will address my letters different from now on I must close and eat supper we are playing Martha Overture to-night With Love to all Walter [18th Infantry] Band A.
