[American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] Sept. 8 1918 Dear Ma - : I rec’d your two letters of July 30 and Aug 9 and was very glad to get them I am just fine we had rehearsal this morning we have a new overture Bits of Renicks Hits no 18 it is sketches of all the years of pouplar songs I am enclosing $21 I want you to pay L.L. Hart $6 for those shoes I just simply forgot allabout it. Was looking over my little book of acc’ts I carry and found it hadent ben checked off. $15 is for Mrs Slagle. Now I want to know how much more I owe her and I would like for Summers to take from Mrs Lewis if she is teaching. I want you to see Mrs Lewis and find out how much she charges for lessons I want summers to study hard. I heard from

Pearl she said she wasent going to write me any more I havent wrote to her since May I may begin again. I dont know, you see one changes especialy under these conditions I have got a dandy French girl who writes me often she lives in Paris. Ittakes so long to get a letter from the states I get disgusted. I have considered the fact that if One gets married you are stuck for life no more good times. it is just work and one couldent study either I am glad to see a new school Bldg erected thats what we need only I think we ought to learn lots of things that the trusts Ect dont let the young learn. You see we learn what they want us to learn, there fore only look on one side of life. I rec’d an old letter from you Dated [April] 11 had ben lost. It has ben raining and is a little cool. I did not see Ray Washburn. I have not ben close to his Reg. I am very close to [Walter] Timmons Regt I hope to see him I seen some fellows out of the [12th Engineers] who know E Johnston but he is a long way from me Well I must close as ever Walter
