Oct 9 – 17 Dear Ma – : Rec’d the papers you sent me, yesterday I thank you Very much. I am fine. We are haveing cold wet weather very dissagrable we had a field Tourament [Sunday] our Reg. won nearly all the Trophies all but one and we got second on that. The band played. we all wore overcoats I shure got chilled through we were setting on benches that made us feel the wind more my fingers had no feeling in them. They

felt like Wood. I seen lots of names in the paper that I dident know. I guess in a couple of more years I wont know hardly any body in [Bonner Springs]. Did Wyane Stanford join the army? who is running the picture show now. If you see poasters out advertiseing The Troops in France you may see Our Band. I see there natives threshing their wheat they have their machines in the barn and they are run by horse power. I sleep warm I have 3 blankets, a Poncho, Shelter, half, and a bed sac filled with straw use Pants and coat for Pillow. we all wear Hobb Nail Shoes they with stand the Stones better. I seen in the paper where Louis Pickard played at glenwodd with Miss Brown Did you hear her? we got some Tobacco yesterday it was given us by some city I dont know which one. Keep somers practiseing lots. I played on a french mans violin the Other day couldent play very much one can forget a whole lot in a short time. I had a tooth filled last wk. I have improved some in tone on the Clarinet I think I
