Oct 19 – 17 Dear Ma - : Rec’d your letter of [September] 18. glad to hear from you. I am well you inquired whether we live in tents or not. we live in huts the Band have one to themselves. I heard a very fine violinist at the Y.M.C.A. hut he played some of the most difficult solos written. I tuned the Piano before hand was very satisfactory it was awful low before I tuned it. we had rain all I may not write for a long time so dont wory

last week was cold too. My feet were wet all wk. I am sore to day was on a 30 k.m. hike yesterday there was a grand review. Miss Vance of [Kansas City] sent me a picture of the big band after Pearl paid What I owed in [Kansas City] she said she sent you $5 that was left over. I am glad Somers is getting along so well she must practise very corectly in perfect time and not be afraid to play hard pieces. I expected Uncle Dans death I heard from C.A. Shaw’s youngest daughter she is teaching school. Ill bet George B. will think the chow he gets in [Oklahoma] is good before he gets through Hazel Grogger’s Brother got drafted. we have a little stove in our hut dosent give much heat. I have decided to buy a set of Bohem System Clarinets they are the only kind that are used by Proffesional players. I smoke cigaretts pipe is to much trouble tell Aunt Sue hello for me. if they got the rain we get over here the lake at the plant would never 'go dry.' the mud is a sticky kind. The

Women over here are expert bicicle riders they shure have to work lots I dont know what some american girls would do if they had to snap Out this way. All the boys are jolly regardless of the weather I will on next payment to Kimballs pay the ballance and Int which amts to $28.81 Well I guess I will quit I havent any thing to write it is hard to write when you have to be so careful what one writes.
