Hoboken N.J. 6/9/17 Der Ma :- We arrived here O.K. expect to leave tonight on the Finland we are about 5 miles from the beach will march down have a pack of course I am just fine hope I will get through O.K. will trust to luck if it is my time it will come if not I will come back [General John J. Pershing] is all ready there I will be in his Division I guess there is some troops all ready gone I guess the Subs Will Watch for us We did not get payed so I can not send Kimbals any money untill they pay off it

[Page 2] May be in France I can send it just as well from there My pen gave out. we have 3300 in our Reg full war strength I have a .45 Auto Matic pistol all the arms I have I hate the trip over more than anything else I guess we will get sick I can say I dident have to be drafted if I come back a Whole lot will have to go that dont Want to. the people are much more patriotic in the east than the west the girls are just crazy about the solders When ever We got of the train they just simply grabed us around the neck

We stayed all night in Hornell N.Y. and we shure had a time they gave us every thing to eat gave us cigarettes cigars and beer for those that Wanted it. I can shure tell the difference in the air here it is so thick I liked Arizona pretty well. every body is anxous to get started I must Close as it is dinner time you can write me a Hoboken N J I Guess the Mail Will be forwarded Good bye Your loving son Walter
