June 29 - 18 Dear Ma - : Well I rec’d several letters yesterday among them was the answer to the one I wrote May 12. I am glad to know you are all well and I noticed Somers name in the paper. I just got through playing for a funeral only the second one I have played in a year. I am playing E [flat] clarinet. We played “Chopins March” very pretty but so sad.

I heard from Walter Timmons again. he is well. We are having beautiful weather the nighst are cold I sleep with a pardner in a barn dosent get ark untill 11 oclock the avions pay us a visit nearly every night. if I get out I dont think I can sleep unless I hear a couple of airplanes over head and expect a bomb at any Minute we are beginning to play a few concerts we are not as good as before my wind is very short on acct of the gas I cut my

whiskers off I got tired of them. I played two violin solos at the Y.M.C.A. last night “To a Wild Rose” and “Humoresque” we have two fine Pianiasts in the band. one is from New York. I played on a violin that we received out off a violin makers shop in a town on the firing line a shall blew the house up and all the violins but this one (it isent a very good one.) How did you like the picture I sent you? Uncle Joe answered my letter. you asked if we wear service stripes yes I have two guess

I will have half dozen by the time the war is over. 1 year ago to-day I first set foot on France and I shure felt good. Well write every week I May not write very often but I cant write if I dont get mail when I do it is about every 2 wks or a month. well I will close I am feeling very well I am your Loving Son Walter [censor signature]
