[American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] June 12 1918 Dear Ma - : I just rec’d your most welcome letter of May 19 I am very well I have regained my voice I have turned very dark as you will see in the picture I sent you you may send Pearl one if you wish. I had a letter from [Walter] Timmons as soon as he landed I answered it I think he is near where we are. I dont know though he may be on the

other side of France We have ben haveing fine weather. is just great for battleing. I am glad the boys are all anxious to get the [Kaiser] we had a little rehersal this morning. I am on E [flat] clarinet our E [flat] Player is in the Hospital our Band played rotten first time we played for 2 mo. I suppose you read all the war news there is a great battle going on all the time now we are in a town not far from the line I am staying in an old deserted house 3 others and me There are a couple of beds and we sleep fine we all Boiled up and got rid of the (50 lots) (seam squirels) I heard from Uncle Joe. I am going to have Monsieur Verney the clarinet solist to pick out my clarinets when I get them I guess there is no hurry as I dont think we will be home for a long time I have a time with the French I dont think I will try to learn any more because I am shure I wont

I herd from Pearl she wrote me a bum letter I shant answer untill I get a better one It dosent get dark untill 10.30 Well I must close as it is time to go to bed With Love Walter P.S.
