January 6 - 18 Dear Ma - : Rec’d your letter of [December] 4 glad to hear from you. yes we had a good dinner Thanksgiveing and xmas. I recd both packages O.K. This ink froze and dont write very good we are haveing a rain to-day guess the snow will go off. we have ben hikeing every day we are not out

to-day but the troops are. The National army shure have it nice all right well they ought to while at home. I heard from E Johnson he dosent like it over here I heard from Pearl she wrote a blue letter I have a pair of wooden shoes I wear when inside during the evening. they rest your feet. my feet havent ben sore yet I take the best care I can of them I had a letter from Earl Gorden. give my best regards to Aunt Sue and the rest I am going to send you some money to pay Clyde if we get payed this month seemed like

I cant get around to sending it. I dident get any presents from the [Red Cross] or Y.M.C.A. it seems like they shure get big donations well you know the officers that run it have to be paid a handsome salary. I gave 2 Franks for the Belgum children relief fund. Yes Our Reg was first in the trenches suppose we will go again soon I should wory you have take what ever comes. must close with Love Walter [censor signature]
