[American Y.M.C.A. letterhead] Feb 1 - 18 Dear Ma - : Rec’d your Letter of [December] 18 the first letter for some time I am well. glad you got the picture I hadent shaved for nearly a wk when the picture was taken there is only about half of our band in the picture. I think the French uniforms are rather better fitting than ours I think most of their suits are altered by their co tailor You might send the picture to pearl but tell her to send it back to you as this is the only one I have they were taken by a French colonel. I seen Emettes letter in the chieftian I thnk Ill keep what I know

to my self. I am going to send Mrs Slagle $15 next pay I will find out how many lessons Somers has taken how many do you think 50¢ is all right my inshurance cost’s me 3.25 Per mo. I want her to continue and I rec’d another Pr. of wristlets from a girl in N.Y. we are now stationed at the Front. Our duties are musical and an auxillary to the Hospital we get good feed. The Band men are Billeted together and we have a little Band and singing every night The weather is not so very cold but very damp the ice freezes on the trees. all the snow is gone I guess some of the new men in camp’s in the U.S.
